Whitworth Grey York Stone
Traditionally when people think of York Stone, they envision the buff, creamy colour. However, York Stone is available in another hue, called Whitworth Grey. This is a pale grey stone with blooms of buff running through, giving movement and depth to the stone.
This York Stone is Diamond sawn 6 sides, creating perfectly smooth paving. We generally cut the stone 600mm wide random lengths x 40mm or 50mm, however, we can cut to specific sizes and dimensions. We also produce Steps and Risers, including Bullnosing and Copings etc.
Whitworth Grey is a fantastic alternative to traditional buff coloured York Stone. It can also be a more economical alternative to Reclaimed York Stone, matching with existing paving and eventually weathering down. It is important to remember this is a natural product so the stone may contain a small amount of veining. However, this veining is characteristic of York Stone.
Whitworth grey can sometimes be overlooked, as many think that the grey will be a bland colour that won’t add depth to a garden, this is a common assumption and not correct, used in a contemporary setting, coursed in set sizes, the stone gives a modern edge to the design, although if laid in a random pattern in sizes of 600mm wide x Random lengths, the stone takes on an almost antique style.
