Our Purbeck Pearl Paving is light in colour and consistent in texture compared to other Purbeck options. This stone is a very durable limestone and suitable for high foot fall areas. Perfect for flooring and paving, although due to how this limestone is quarried, it's only available in smaller sizes.
This paving dates back to the Jurassic era – that’s around 145 million years – and if you look closely you’ll find marine fossil shells. The Inland Purbeck beds were laid later during the Cretaceous era, and instead of sea water were formed in a brackish lagoon. This gives them a completely different colour, as well as traces of small fresh-water bivalves and gastropods. It has been used extensively to restore a number of prestigious stately homes and impressive buildings.
Due to Purbeck Stone being a natural quarried product, it can have marks and natural veining, but the great thing is that this does add character to your project and your stone will be unique to you. You will also own your very own piece of British history!
